Dogs are pack animals and, much as they love being with us, they enjoy spending time with their own species and communicating in their native tongue (or nose).
The
Columbia Dogs-on-the-Go Meetup is for everyone who loves to walk and hike with their dogs, and wants to meet new friends and get to know the many lovely trails in and around Howard County. (Dog lovers who don't have a dog are always welcome too!) The goal is to give us all some time to socialize and exercise. There are only a few simple rules to follow:
- Your dog must have up-to-date rabies and distemper vaccinations and be friendly toward other dogs. (No aggressive dogs.)
- You must respect Howard County's leash laws at all times. A standard 6-8 foot leash is preferable to the "Flexi" or extendable leads, which can get tangled with other leashes and cause "leash burns."
- You must scoop your dog's poop and dispose of it properly.
- You and your dog must be well behaved and under control at all times.
And, like any good scout, be prepared. Bring enough water (and snacks, if you'd like) for you and your dog, and dress sensibly for the weather.
If you feel your dog is too small, old or young to do the whole walk--or just not into it--feel free to go part way, or just hang out with us for a little while at a picnic table.
CANCELLATION NOTICES: If the weather looks iffy (rain, snow, extreme temperatures), check this meet-up site about an hour or two before the scheduled walk for a cancellation notice and any details about a rescheduled walk. We'll also try to send out an e-mail to all who registered for the walk. And, we promise to try not to be too wimpy and will cancel only if necessary.
