I think we will see the sun again on Sun-day! And it is forecast to be 67 degrees outside!!
Let's take a walk with our furry children in the early afternoon!! (I can't do this on Sunday mornings....so I hope you are available on Sunday afternoon!)
I'm in the mood to get out with Tess and Connor as much as I can before the cold weather really gets here.
The trail we will be walking is about 2 miles through a wood-chip and leaf covered covered path. The trails are wide and well-marked, and consist of several loops throughout the park. WE WILL DO THE RED TRAIL AND MAYBE A BIT OF THE GREEN TRAIL (which would be more than 2 miles if we do some of the Green Trail). There are some elevation changes, but nothing too challenging.
It will have rained Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, so the trails might muddy. I recommend hiking boots or trail shoes (if you have them) over sneakers.
You can print out a Savage Park trail map before coming if you'd like a preview.
These trails feel far removed from civilization even though they are so close to Columbia.
There are some interesting old ruins of bridges and dams that you'll see along the trail, and they are good vantage points for beautiful views of the river. You may hear the sound of nearby I-95 on part of the walk, which might affect your feelings of remoteness, but we just pretend it's the sound of a rushing river and we're happy.
After the hike we can take a short drive (1.5 miles) over to Savage Historic Mill and/or stop at the Savage Mill Center for a mid-afternoon snack, pastries or coffee at Bonaparte's Bakery. There is outdoor seating in an enclosed patio area. VERY DOG FRIENDLY!!
Please note that the meeting time is 1:00 pm.
