Maryland Kennel Club All Breed Dog Show - Ho Co Fairgrounds

Let's go to a Dog Show!

Sunday October 10th 2009 at the Howard County Fairgrounds.

NOTE: the fairgrounds charges a $5.00 parking fee.

I've put the meetup time at 11:00 AM. The show starts at 8:00 AM and goes until approximately 2:00 PM.

This is the Maryland Kennel Club's annual conformation show.

Several of you know that I am familiar with the dog show world and I have mentioned that I would love to take a group of interested persons to a dog show and teach you a little bit about what goes on. I plan to make this a learning opportunity, an introduction into the "sport" of dog showing. I'll explain how a dog show works, including how a dog works it way from the breed classes to the group classes to Best In Show!

Dog shows are a great opportunity to see the best representations of a breed you fancy and talk to breeders about their passion.

And don't forget SHOPPING! Lots of vendors selling every sort of dog paraphernalia you can ever imagine.

This is a meetup for humans only - dogs not entered in the show are not permitted.

I will send more details to you toward the end of this week.

Have the times been announced for each breed yet? We'd like to see the papillons & Italian greyhounds :)

We definitely want to see the Cavaliers, and will probably show up early for the Shih Tzus. Can't wait!

Has ring times for each breed. Several breeds are scheduled in a ring for a particular time. Say for example, Scotties and Carins are both at 10:00 AM. If the Scotties are first, the Carins might not show until 10:30.

My Suggestions - wear comfy shoes and bring a folding chair. You can also bring a cooler with water/beverages etc so you don't have to pay the high prices from food vendors.

I had a LOT of fun! It was great to get an overview of dog showing, especially in the breed classes that are never aired on television. The structure of the shows makes a lot more sense now! I spent most of the time wandering around to catch the breeds I wanted to see, but it was nice to meet up with everyone at the beginning.

Fun to see so many breeds in one place, all so well-behaved and looking their best. Definitely want to go to another one.
