FYI:
My husband and I have seen coyotes here ( I live in Huntington, Kings Contrivance, but not too many in the past two years. Usually we see them at night while driving in the area or very early morning. This year, we've seen several- all at night. Today, around 5:00 p.m, 2 coyotes jumped out of my yard and ran down the path toward the river. I gasped out loud! Too close! They are very, very fast- you may not realize what you have seen as they run past. They are larger than a fox, about the size of a dog- but they move very differently than a dog. Their coat is kind of brindle reddish-brownish grey or just brown-grey and they have alert pointy ears. They have very "freaky" facial expressions- also different than a dog- I can't explain it, but they seem purposeful when they move. In my case, there are lots of rabbits in my yard, and I am also babysitting my daughter's tiny doxies. My understanding is that they can and will attack small animals and children- so be careful. However, I believe they are here to stay. I guess they read the Money magazine article about how great Columbia is. Lori P. |

Thanks for the update on that, Lori.
I saw a coyote in our yard a few years ago. You're right about the way they move and act. It's what made me think it wasn't just a stray dog and led me to google "coyote." I was wondering what their situation was here recently, since I hadn't seen one again for a while. But, two together! Yikes! And I know they do attack cats and small animals. Poor bunnies. |
